Pilipinas: Beautiful Name, Beautiful History, Beautiful Country

Pilipinas, as how Filipinos call their mother land is a beautiful country in Southeast Asia.  Like every other country, Pilipinas life on earth has been a real roller coaster. It went from zero to hero to zero to indefinite. Every swirl of event that happened to Pilipinas definitely made it and its people who they are today. Looking back to its history, during the era of getting its Pilipinas name, this country experienced every bit of universal truth. Spaniards colonized the country, giving it its name and its future. Almost everything Filipinos are today is thank-you-spanish-era. Their language, food, beliefs, values, etc etc etc are all influenced by this era. It’s not just influence that Spanish invasion gave the country, it also generated the strengths and weaknesses that Filipinos have now. Because of Spanish tyranny, Filipinos realized the need to fight in all ways possible (hand war or word war), and also the need to just comply. No wonder Filipinos remain flexible and easy to get along with.

After the Spanish invasion of more than three centuries, other countries also saw the beauty and wealth of the well blessed Pilipinas. It is an archipelago full of gifted natural resources, who wouldn’t want to own this country? Japanese colony arrived and also left a few not so good memories to Filipinos of those days. Chinese also came and they actually influence the country pretty well in terms of food and most significantly in business and marketing. Chinese people then and now are really really good in business, even before the rise of technology and the tagline “made in China”. Until now, Pilipinas is still a home to many Chinese businessmen who have really influenced Filipinos in money saving and cash generation.

Among all the colonizers of Pilipinas, it seems that Americans left the best image to Filipinos. If the Filipinos are known for their colonial mentality, most of the time that their mentality are colonized it is by the Americans. Well, US saved the country from the Spaniards. Most Filipinos love how Americans do everything. From fashion to beauty, from language to tv, most of American ways are idolized by Filipinos. Almost every Filipino can even speak or understand the English language fluently. It’s not really a bad thing. However, sometimes prioritizing to love your own can bring better progress in all aspects. Nevertheless, this does not define Filipinos. Filipinos’ natural traits are also engaging. Their historical past must have made them to be flexible, easily adjusted, and tough. Filipinos are positive thinking people, not to mention they are considered one of the happiest people on earth.

Pilipinas is definitely a great country with great destinations and great people. Yeah it is a third world country, but you will surely forget that when you see its natural wonders and happy people.
